We thought we'd compile our thoughts on the movies we've reviewed during the show and compare how we feel. Just a friendly reminder that Kendra's rating scale is weird and sometimes a higher number just means you need to watch it!
Dungeons and Dragons:
Scott’s Review:
Rating: 1.5/10
Reasons:
Terrible Acting and Awful Writing
Garbage special effects
Looks like the cast raided a Halloween Store for props and outfits
Huge portions of plot go unexplained
Jarring jumps from point to point
Kendra’s Review:
Rating: 8/10
Reasons:
So bad you have to watch it
It’s still a D&D movie
Actual rating: 4/10 - I agree with everything Scott had to say, but I still enjoyed watching it.
Mazes and Monsters
Scott’s Review:
Rating: 2/10
Reasons:
Bad acting (even Tom Hanks was not amazing)
Asinine story sequence
Cringe dude with the hats
Kendra's Review:
Rating: 5/10
Reasons:
Didn't do the story it was based on justice
Music didn't match the movie
You get to see a young Tom Hanks
Actual Rating: 3/10 - it just doesn't have the WOW factor
Dune (1984)
Scott's Review:
Rating: 4.5/10
Reasons:
Beyond convoluted storyline
Weird plot focuses and narration
Good effects and props for the year
Decent acting cast
Ending felt rushed and abrupt
Kendra's Review:
Rating: 4/10
Reasons:
Literally couldn't pay attention to it
Too much sexual tension regarding "the spice"
Actual Rating: probably the same
Super Mario Bros.
Scott's Review:
Rating: 4/10
Reasons:
Really out-there storyline (dinosaurs evolved into humans?)
Decent acting (Bob Hoskins makes a good Mario)
Weird Home Alone style music
Odd props and details provided some laughs
Kendra's Review:
Rating: 6.5/10
Reasons:
It was a little weird, but it was pleasant to watch
I like a good love story
"Trust the fungus!"
Reebok shoes
Actual Rating: 6.5/10
The Number 23
Scott's Review:
Rating: 6/10
Reasons:
Overly dramatic and dark at times
Good acting cast
Switching between storylines can be confusing
Entertaining despite the flaws (nostalgic swayed)
Kendra's Review:
Rating: 9/10
Reasons:
There's books/writers involved
Murder mystery
Mysteriously sexy scenes
Very engaging
Actual Rating: 7/10
Dune (2021)
Scott's Review:
Rating: 7/10
Reasons:
Great acting cast, much better script
JASON MOMOA
Amazing effects (normal for modern movie)
Slower pacing, not as overwhelming
Some terms not explained as well as the first movie
Kendra's Review:
Rating: 6/10
Reasons:
It's still a little confusing
DRAX doesn't belong here (Sorry Dave Bautista. I guess I don't like your face ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Movie design/props/etc. all fantastic
Actual Rating: 8/10
Doom (2005)
Scott's Review:
Rating: 3.5/10
Reasons:
No real relation to the Doom games
Closer to Resident Evil than Doom
Some good acting (Karl Urban) and some rough acting (Rosamund Pike, Richard Brake)
Bad effects and script for the year
Underwhelming monsters (basically zombies instead of demons)
Kendra's Review:
Rating: 8.75/10
Reasons:
Acting was pretty good
A few weird character tensions, but otherwise enjoyable
Easy to follow along
Cool sound track
Overall, enjoyed watching it
Actual Rating: I stand by my rating even though I now know it doesn't follow the game.
