Adidas Yeezy 700 MNVN - Honey Flux

Updated: Jul 8, 2022

Sup fellow sneakerheads and nerds, and salutations back to the Super Saiyan Shoe Scrutiny session on this savory site. Back to the SSSS if you will. We move and review these sneaks swiftly, silently, skillfully, and slyly, after all. Tongue twisters aside, we are back and taking a look at another sneaker this week! Thanks for returning; leave us a review and a comment if you are an OG from our first review.

The Yeezy brand is another standout sneaker brand. Albeit one that is on the newer side. The Yeezy brand is Kanye West's brainchild, and originally debuted with Nike. West released the Air Yeezy 1 and Air Yeezy 2 during his time with Nike, but ended up breaking the partnership in 2013 after the release of the "Red October" colorway of the Air Yeezy 2. Kanye reached out to Adidas about a potential partnership that was more mutually beneficial for both the brand and Kanye. Yeezy Season 1 debuted in 2015, and it the brand has been blazing a trail ever since. By the time 2016 rolled around, the brand deal was extended and the Yeezy became its own category at Adidas due to its massive success. By 2020, the Yeezy brand reached up to $1.7 billion dollars in revenue, and it shows no signs of stopping. The brand has become a staple for the Sneakerhead's closet, with drops consistently selling out. Good luck getting the pair you want.

So, with some background out of the way (don't you feel educated now?), let's proceed to our subject of the week: the Adidas Yeezy 700 MNVN in the Honey Flux colorway. These babies released in September of 2021, and joins a number of other colorways for the 700 MNVN. They retailed for $220, and they are actually one of the few Yeezy sneakers that now resell for less than retail (I should know, I ended up with a pair...) which is fine if you just love sneakers in general. Bad news for the reseller though. The 700 MNVN features a unique lightweight polyester covering over the top of the shoe (in this case in yellow) over a deep black sole. On the side is a bold, metallic, reflective branding of the "700" on the lateral side (that's the outside of the shoe for you who are not inducted). The shoes also utilize a slip on method with laces that do not require tying. Nifty if you are lazy like me.

While I will say I did not mind the design, these were not the most comfortable things I have ever worn on my feet before. Sure, they are easy to slip on, but the sole is very hard, and the overall sidewalls and heels of the shoe were very stiff. Not too bad for kicking it casually, but if you had to do any decent amount of walking, I would probably opt for something a little more springy. All that stiffness and material means they are also not the lightest. At the end of the day, you have to suffer a little bit for fashion. The detail I enjoyed most about the shoe was the overall covering. Honey yellow would not really be a first choice for me, but it is something cool that is a bit different. The color brought a couple of characters to mind as well.

For starters, the color scheme of black and yellow could have brought me all sorts of places, but ultimately I ended up in the fictional Death City in Nevada. "Death City?" you might be asking yourself, and you would be whisked away by a Google search to find the manga and anime series Soul Eater.

Soul Eater was created by Atsushi Ohkubo, and it is a wildly popular manga and anime series about students in Shinigami's (the embodiment of death) academy training to create a death scythe weapon by absorbing souls. They need 100 souls to meet their goals (my rap album drops in 2023). Students are paired up, with one being the weapon and one being the wielder.

Soul Evans, death scythe in training

If that description sounds a little confusing, it is because it does kind of start that way. The easiest way for you to have it explained is to check it out yourself, which I highly recommend. (The author also moved on to create the manga/anime series Fire Force, which I am currently reading and watching.) Pictured below is one of the main characters of Soul Eater, Maka, and her partner weapon (scythe), Soul.

When Soul has not transformed into a scythe, he takes the following appearance:

Just look at the fashion, baby!
Black and yellow kicks to make the fit

You might start to see where the yellow and black of the Yeezy 700 MNVNs is coming in. Soul Evans has a wild fashion sense all his own, which I think would pair quite nicely with the Yeezys in question. Since he can transform into a scythe and have Maka do most of the running around, who cares if the shoes are comfortable? As long as they look good. We do know Soul likes to look good since from time to time he dresses up quite dapper.

Soul goes against the grain with some of his punk rock attitudes and would be happy to rock some shoes that are a bit niche and outside of the norm. As such, I deem that the Yeezy 700 MNVN Honey Flux would be a pair of kicks that he would rock proudly.

Let me know if you agree with my thoughts on this or if you have another character that you think would fit the bill a little bit better. Someone else with yellow shoes came to mind during my review.....but we will leave that for another time.

Until the SSSS brings us together next time, see you later sneakerheads and nerds!
