Sup nerds?! In all honesty, my friends and myself are some of the biggest nerds I know. Trust me, I come in peace. Welcome to what I am coining the Super Saiyan Shoe Scrutiny (SSSS?!) corner. It's a working title.
In today's world, things like dungeons and dragons, tabletop games, video games, and anime & manga are more popular then they have ever been. With this popularity, we at 5 More Minutes are always looking for new and fun ways to rep our favorite things.
One of the other loves of our podcast happens to be shoes. Both of us have been buying shoes since way back in the day. Famous Footwear's buy-one-get-one 1/2 off was a fairly frequent occurrence, along with any other good sales or deals we could sniff out. Watching new shoes drop and fresh new designs come out has always held our interest. We have had our runs with Puma, Reebok, Adidas, and Nike. It is always fun to see the fresh new colorways hit the street. Often, my head will even make connections between these colorways and themes with some of my favorite fictional characters. I mean, how many people wonder what kind of shoes Vincent Valentine would kick it in on his day off? Just me?
You could imagine my excitement when top shoe brands started getting in on anime and video game collaborations. The joy I saw when there were legitimate, Vegeta inspired Adidas was on another level. You know those will be getting some spotlight here. However, the collabs do not always go as smoothly as you would like to see (and there are definitely some misses), but the fact that the door is open for this type of thing is fantastic.
Since I have spent a number of years amassing a modest beginner-level shoe collection, I thought I would put my interest in shoes and some of the topics mentioned above to work. On a semi-frequent basis (I hope...) I will drop in a review on a specific shoe, and correlate what characters I would see rocking them when they are not saving the world or doing what they do best. And hey, I never said they would always be favorable critiques. Questionable characters will have questionable shoe tastes. No one is safe; anyone can get it.
(That face when your style gets roasted. Sorry Krillin.)
We would love to hear your thoughts. Show us some love and support and let's find out what kicks our favorite characters would rep together.
